Meet Ken
Ken is one of our learners and he created a video for the Voices of Adult Learners project, (June 13, 2016), through Literacy Link Niagara.
Ken is dedicated to his studies and has progressed well. He has a wonderful sense of humour and is always ready to share a story or chat.
The people who come to us for help with literacy have many different goals. Call Gail at our office if you wish to learn more about reading, writing, math or every day life skills; or if you wish to improve your literacy skills to help you in your working situation.
Gail can be contacted by telephone at 905-684-3500 Ext 550 or by e-mail, gwhiteside@literacyniagara.org.
Important Information
- Our program is offered to persons over the age of 19 and you must be out of the Public School system.
- The Learning Centre can help you learn. We have trained volunteer tutors who will work with you one-on-one and it is possible to work around your own time schedule.
- You will be asked to come into the office for an assessment to find out your level of learning. This meeting will take about 2 hours. After the assessment a tutor will be assigned to you.
- There is no charge for being tutored. This is a FREE service.
- The YMCA Employment Center has workshops that are available for our learners to attend. These are also FREE and you could learn more about the subjects that interest you.
- We also provide work related instruction. Workplace Literacy is concerned with understanding the manuals and terms that are used in your place of work, or in a workplace that you wish to join. Our tutors use materials from many different occupations to help their learners to become familiar with workplace language. Workforce Literacy is concerned with finding your place in the workforce. Referrals can be made to Employment Services when necessary.
