Staff Bios
Christine Restivo
Chris began working with the Council in September 1991 following fifteen years of working with a charity for senior citizens. Chris oversees the general day-to-day operation and management of the Council including creating and implementing policies and all requirements of the Board of Directors as well as supervision of staff. Chris is a supervising trainer which includes creation and presentation of workshop segments. In her spare time (which is rare) Chris enjoys hiking, baking, creating special greeting cards and spending time with her family.
Mikko Kivisto
Mikko began as a volunteer tutor in September 2015 and became a member of the Board of Directors two years later. He was elected Chair between 2020 and 2023. Since February 2025, Mikko is working as the Learning Centre’s Literacy Coordinator. His duties include being a point person for literacy learners and tutors (including math), conducting learner assessments, matching tutors with our potential learners, and liaising with our partners.
Iris Thomas
Iris Thomas joins the team as the new Get SET Coordinator, bringing a strong background in community support from their times as a Client Services Specialist at the YMCA. Driven by a passion for empowering individuals through accessible education, Iris eagerly joined the Niagara Regional Learning Center to champion the program’s core initiatives and drive participant success. Known for their exceptional relationship-building skills, they look forward to fostering a collaborative environment. Iris is a warm loving compassionate person and will be a great addition to the Team,
