Our volunteers, in their various roles, are essential to the success of NRLC. We have approximately 54 volunteer tutors (who assist up to 100 learners each year); the Board of Directors has a maximum of sixteen volunteer members; other volunteers are involved in fund raising and other supportive activities. Some volunteers may be active in all of these categories.
Volunteer Tutors
Our volunteer tutors come from all walks of life. They share a love of reading and a desire to help other adults reach their literacy goals.

Introductory Tutor Meetings
| Potential volunteer tutors | Volunteers are introduced to our tutoring program through one-to-one training. A first registration meeting is held at the office for about an hour. This meeting will explain who we are, why we are and what we do. Following this a meeting is held with another trainer who will explain the materials we use, what to expect, how to work with learners and much much more. This meeting could take 2 hours. |

Volunteer Board Members
The Board of Directors is responsible for the management of the Council’s affairs. The Executive Committee consists of the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. An evening meeting of the Board is held once a month. Board members provide expertise from a variety of backgrounds and are elected for two year terms at the time of the Annual General Meeting in September.
